Writing

Playwriting:

Since I trained in Playwriting at the University of Minnesota and worked as a Dramaturgy/Literary Management Assistant at the Guthrie Theater, I’ve had over a dozen short plays & one-acts produced between London and the US, as well as staged readings for full length plays Spiritualists and Empty.

Another full length play, The Ballerina, had sold out productions in South London and New York, and was programmed at the Vaults Festival 2020 before it was cancelled due to COVID-19. Earlier drafts have been long-listed for Theatre 503’s National Playwriting Award and short-listed for the Park Theatre’s Script Accelerator program.

Writing for Events & Corporate Events:

My background in playwriting and corporate language training offered me the opportunity to write site specific semi-immersive live shows for events and training purposes for all sizes (e.g. Chanel Spain, Día de Los Muertos event in Hackney). I love doing this because briefs and deadlines actually motivate my creativity. In addition, working for new clients satisfies my naturally curious mind and its constant thirst to discover captivating new stories and share them with the world.

If you have an event or corporate training that needs a storytelling element, I’d love to hear about your project, so feel free to get in touch.

Screenwriting:

I also write short and feature lengths screenplays for film and television, with genres ranging from supernatural horror to quirky comedy and gangster stories.

My short screenplay, dark dramedy Goodbye, Fusion! was a quarter finalist with the BlueCat International Competition, while Joyeux Noël! a little Holiday Season vignette I also directed, received a distinction from the Canada Shorts Film Festival after premiering in Shoreditch. Two other short films are currently in post-productions and starting the festival circuit.

When it comes to feature length, I currently have:

  • A completed script and pitch book for a horror feature film (Creaks)

  • A completed TV pilot script (Autumn of Terror - Period, Drama, Crime, Supernatural)

  • A completed script for a very silly comedy set on plane.

  • Notes and ideas for a handful of TV series and feature films, but it might be a bit too early for details!

In spite of differences in genre and tone, all my scripts are character-led and all follow a protagonist looking to find or reclaim their voice and a place in the(ir) world.

Finally, I’ve also put other people’s visions and objectives into screenplay format, be it for short film producers or writing showreel scenes for actors.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions, if you’re looking for a short, feature length or TV script to produce, or if you have a screen idea in search of a writer.

Journalistic Writing, Short Stories, Poetry:

Journalism was my vocation growing up and though I chose a different kind of storytelling as an adult, I enjoy interviewing people and writing articles from time to time.

This began at university, where I was a contributor writer for the food and style pages of our college magazine, before I became style page editor there.

Since then, I’ve contributed to film online magazines myDylarama, The Spread and Acting Hour, as well as food centred sites such as Sated and The Authentic (both as Alba Martin).

Lastly, I sometimes dabble in short story writing and poetry, winning a local comedic short story writing contest during the pandemic, and seeing a few of my “Boozy Poems” staged at Conway Hall and put to music by the French Song Cycle during the Voilà Festival.
